Is life insurance worth it?

Please, what ever you do, do not listen to the nay sayers. Do not think of life insurance as an investment, but as protection. If you are married or have kids, life insurance is the most important insurance you can have. If you are single, disability insurance is the most important insurance you can have. There are several types of life insurance out there and because of this you can pay a wide range for the same amount of coverage. The most important thing to know when buying life insurance is that you get enough coverage. Talk to a local insurance agent. If they don't ask you questions about your income, assets, loans... find another agent.

Life insurance is generally a good value, although some policies are a better value than others.

Basically, you are pooling your money with other people, and the pool pays out something when someone dies. How much you have to pay in is based on the probability that you will be the lucky winner of part of the jackpot - and die.

Just like a casino or a state lottery, you can estimate the "Expected Value" of the payoff of insurance. Using probability and statistics, you can determine how much payback you can expect (on average) for every dollar that you put into insurance.

Term Insurance is the least confusing, because there is no "investment" portion, like there is with "Whole Life" policies. Basically, the way Term insurance works is that you pay a premium, and you are in effect saying to the insurance company "I bet you that I die this year". The insurance company is betting you don't. If the insurance company wins the bet, they get to keep your premium, and if you win, then your loved ones get to keep the payout.

Of course, the expected value to the buyer for every dollar paid in will be LESS THAN a dollar (otherwise the insurance companies would be out of business fast!) Insurance Companies generally make a very decent profit, but not outrageous. And they have sales people and administrative staff and big buildings that you are paying for.

So mathematically, life insurance is a bad bet (it's good for the insurance companies, bad for you). But it's a GREAT instrument for making sure that you can provide for loved ones in the event of your demise. And competitive pressures keep the prices of insurance relatively "fair", so in general, I'd say that life insurance is "worth it".

If you have loved ones and count on an income to pay THEIR bills, get insurance.

wen u r about 2 die..ya its worth it...
and also wen u r the benificiary!!!

Life insurance is worth it if you have something to protect in case of an early death. It probably isn't a good "investment", but it isn't meant to be an investment. Ask yourself the question, who would suffer if I die? The answer might be "nobody" at which point life insurance is not worth it. The answer might be "my spouse and children", in which case, the next question needs to be "for how long?" and "how much would make it better?" A good insurance agent (which might be hard to find) or financial planner (which might be hard to afford) can help. For most people, some amount of some sort of life insurance is worth it.

NO! Dont Do It!!! Life insurance is a suckers game.

I work for an insurance company. Life is our most profitable line. Why? Because odds are good that you will live a certain number of years based on your risk factors (smoking, histroy of heart problems, ect...). We increase premiums based on these risk factors.

Unless something tragic happens and you experience an early death, life insurance will be a poor investment for you. Take the premiums you would have spent and invest them in a large cap growth mutual fund.

yes it is, only if u care about loved ones.

Yes life insurance is worth becasue now a days you don't know what will happen to you and you don't have the gurantee your life will be safe so once you are insured then what ever happens to you the money what hd gone for your insurance will be benefited to the people of ur own family

Is car insurance a rip off?

No, since you'll never know when something may happen.

how can you get your vehicle registered without proof of insurance? Report Abuse

You can't get your vehicle registered without proof of insurance.

Btw, sure you have paid more in your lifetime than has ever been paid out, but should your luck run out tomorrow and you cause a lot of damage, you'll be glad you had insurance. It's all a gamble. Report Abuse

untrue about registration. it varies by state and most you only need to sign that you assume financial responsibility. for states that require an actual form from the insurance company are easy to...get insurance, print form, register, cancel next day. Report Abuse

What are the differences between "share options" and "warrants"? Are they actually the same thing?

A warrant is a type of option.

Warrants are "a type of security that entitles the holder to buy a proportionate amount of common stock or preferred stock at a specified price for a period of years. Warrants are usually issued together with a loan, a bond or preferred stock --and act as sweeteners, to enhance the marketability of the accompanying securities. They are also known as stock-purchase warrants and subscription warrants." (see source)

An share option is a right to buy or sell a stock at a pre-determined price. These aren't usually in conjunction with a loan (or when they are, they are usually called warrants).

I have seen warrants in small businesses, as some initial founders loan money to the company. In this case, the lenders / investors received warrants that allowed them to convert the loans to shares at their option, at a pre-determined price.

This allows the lender to defer the decision as to whether they want to end up with payment of the loan (with interest), or shares of the company.

I've seen share options on major companies as "calls" or "puts" listed on the major exchanges. Calls are the right to buy a stock at a pre-determined price; puts are the right to SELL a stock at a pre-determined price. Calls and Puts can be Bought or Sold, giving you alternate ways to "bet" on the performance of the company, with associated risks.

For instance, if you think the value of a stock is going to go up, you can buy the stock. Or you can buy a call (for a fraction of the stock price). Or you can "write a put" (i.e. sell a put option).

The difference in these three methods has to do with how much is at risk. In the first case, the stock would need to go to zero for you to lose all your money. In the second case (buy a call), the call option is typically a limited time offer, and if the stock doesn't move to the "strike price" (your agreed upon price at which you can buy the the stock, given the option), then you lose your money.

The riskiest of all is to Write a Put, in that you are agreeing to buy the stock from someone at a fixed price at a later date AT THEIR OPTION. If the stock price falls, then you can lose a lot, because you may have to buy it from them at the higher price, and then you'll be holding something that is worth less than what you paid.

Calls and puts are good way to "hedge" your positions, or "take some of the money off the table" if you have some gains that you are happy with. They can be valuable instruments to cut risk, or they can be used in very risky ways.

Warrants end up being very similar to buying call options, except the consideration is often a loan.

What is the best type of life insurance?

Between whole life, universal life, variable life, and term.

It depends on what you can afford. You can get $500,000 of term insurance for under $30 a month. That same amount of coverage would cost several hundred dollars a month for a UL or VUL and even more for whole life. Make sure that you get enough coverage and then if you can afford it, start a seperate well funded VUL.

hey, soemthing i can actually honestly answer,
there is no wrong answer, just different options for different solutions.please email me for more info since I will need to ask you a few question to let you know what is needed. ( i am not trying to sell you anything, just being nice)

Go to ambest.com and check their financial rating. If it is B+ or better, they should be considered financially stable.

If Govt. bring EET (Exempt Exempt Tax) will I get tax exempt on policies that open before law?

Yes sure.

Yes Tushar, You will get.

How to choose Unit Linked Insurance Plan (India)?

Which are the criteries should be cosider during plan seletion?

Will goverment remove tax exemption of such plan in near future?

Mainly three things should be considered
Choose the plan according to your requirement.
Compare charges (include hidden charges also).
Compare past fund performance.
And importantly take professional advice; after all it’s your money.

There are planning to remove tax benefits only on maturity on few saving schemes but nothing is finalized and plan taken before that will give full tax benefits.

I want to take classes to become an auto insurance agent, where do i look?

You'll want to get 3 licenses:
P&C license (Property & Casualty)
Life & Health license
Securities License (Depending on the state that you live in, this could mean a Series 6 & 63 OR Series 7)
The reason is that most auto insurance agencies now sell auto, home, life and investments. Even if you put a specialist in your office to sell the other stuff you will still need to have the licenses to get commissions on them.
I would talk to Erie Insurance. They sell as independent agents and offer more than one company. This can be very important. Lets say you own a State Farm agency and then six months from now they have a huge rate increase. You lose half your customers and can't do anything about it. Go independent and those same customers can call you up and you can rewrite them with a different company. You can order your study materials here:
http://www.dearborn.com

uuuh, look for colleges around you and ask them about classes... or look them up online and have them send you information.

Your local JC (cheapest route) PLUS combine it with a P/T or F/T job at a local Farmers Agency to have the quickest path to a seasoned auto agent. By the way I am not associated with Farmers; however, I know that they are a great source of OJT training on auto and dwelling insurance!

What type of insurance companies?

What does uninsured motorist property damage on an auto insurance policy cover?

Also, who needs this coverage? Is it always necessary?

I'm not a licensed insurance agent, but my family is the business. Uninsured motorist property damage pays for the damage on your vehicle in the event that you are in an automobile accident with someone else that doesn't have insurance where the uninsured is at fault. Everyone should have it & most do without perhaps knowing it. When you have "full coverage" on your car, you have it.

Watch out. Many states put a limit on UMPD coverage. Here in calif its only 3,500. So thats all you will get despite paying a premium. Its not worth it most of the time. Report Abuse

Where to find a company with mainframe computers?

You would get a smaller list if you ask for what companies/industries DO NOT use a mainframe computer.
In the Metro NY area - you have companies such as Morgan Stanley, Chase, Citibank, Merrill Lynch, Goldman for the Financial Sector

Accenture, Price Waterhouse Cooper for Auditors.

Coach, Dress Barn for Retailers

Bertelsman for Book Publishing

CoverGirl for Cosmetics.

The list goes on......

Many computer manufacturers product mainframe computers. I would check www.ibm.com, www.gateway.com, www.dell.com for the best deals on mainframe computers

How do I findout if a policy is inforce?

Call directly to your insurance company.

Contact either your broker or the insurance company on your Declarations Page of your policy and ask them. If you want to inquire about a 3rd party's insurance (e.g., you want to make sure your contractor has valid insurance), you can ask for a certificate of insurance. If you feel the certificate is fake, call the insurance company that issued the certificate. Also, if it is a contractor, you can contact your state contractor's license board, which regulates the licensing, bonding, and insuring requirements for contractors.

Can you cash in a life insurance policy that you pay premiums on at work?

It depends on the type of life insurance you are buying. Basically, if it's a term policy, no. If it's a whole life , then yes. There are other variables that can affect this (e.g., any conversion limitations).

Most employer plans are Group Term Insurance, but there are some UL or Whole plans. First step is to see what kind of plan you are in. Then you should have a copy of the policy. If you are trying to take cash from the plan, contact the company that wrote the plan.

Where does a 50 yo male with diabetes and heart disease go for helth insurance?

Are you currently covered, and thinking of a change? Have you had any gaps in your coverage?

If you aren't covered at all, generally the Blue Cross/Blue Shields will cover even those with pre-existing conditions.

If you are covered and looking at a change, you may have rights under a federal law called HIPAA, that guarantees access to insurance.

go work for a company that has group health insurance. some state allow you to start a company with 2 employees to have guaranteed group health insurance.

Are VULs really a good way to avoid paying taxes on income obtained in investments?

I'm considering getting into a Variable Universal Life Policy, and I want to know if it is a good idea or if it's better to buy term and invest the difference.

I think part of it depends on how old you are. If you are under 30, I believe you can lock in a pretty low premium. The advantage is that it never increases like a term life insurance, and there's both a cash value that you can draw on when you reach retirement, and a death benefit. You should probably do more research before you buy though.

If a broken pipe from the upstairs tenants apartment, floods my apartment. Who is responable to pay 4 damages?

The building itself will be covered by the landlords policy. Any personal property would be covered on your rents insurance.
Here is some more info:
http://www.insuremyhouse.com/info.html

Definitely the upstairs tenant.

Whoever has caused you an injury is responsible to cover your losses. It would help if you have enough proof to make your case in court, but you may be able to avoid court. If you are both tenants and the Landlord neglected the plumbing, the Landlord may pay. If the Landlord had plumbing work performed, and the work was done improperly, the plumber may be responsible (and likely has insurance). If the upstairs tenant was negligent in causing the pipe to break, he/she may be responsible. The Landlord may be insured and if you or the upstairs tenant have renter's insurance, one or both policies may help recover damages.

The short answer is, who caused the damage?

Could be the landlord, could be the tenant, could be a plumber, could be the manufacturer of the appliance or fitting that failed. You need more info.

What kind of licenses does a hair business owner need to open up a beauty salon?

If you're in the US, you can contact your state's regulatory board. There's a specific license needed in Tennessee, for example. Tennessee has a TN Department of Commerce and Insurance that controls the licensing in the state. See link for example... http://www.state.tn.us/commerce/boards/i…

You might also have a city and county requirement for not just starting a beauty salon but starting any business. You might also want to check with your county clerk's office.

I dont know where you are writing from, but as of two years ago in British Columbia Canada you no longer need a licence to do hair any more. Shocking but true! So here one would only need a business licence.
