When donating money to certain charities, you are restricted to no more than 50% of your adjusted gross income, while for some other charities you are restricted to 30% of your adjusted gross income. Is there a comprehensive list anywhere which an individual can access to:
1. Determine if the institution is a recognized charity.
2. How much of your adjusted gross income this charity is restricted to?

There is actually no limit on the amount you can donate. The limits refer to the fact that your deductions for charitable contributions on your income tax returns cannot exceed the given percentage of your annual income. There are many organizations falling under the umbrella of 30% and 50% limit charities, and there is no comprehensive list. If you are considering making a contribution to a particular organization, they will be glad to tell you which type they may be.

The 30 vs 50% allowed depends on what's donated, not on the charity.
