THe guy missed up on the date to it was really delayed about a couple of months, then i lost it and i found it its about 4 months old now. Can i initial it for him because ive lost full contact with that person.I dont want to do something that i can get into trouble for. Pleas help its over $1000.
YES you can cash it if it is made out to you. Don't initial anything for anyone else. Bank MAY, but is not required to, cash "stale" checks. Stale checks may be defined as more than 6 months old or more than 12 months old. So sign it and cash it.
Unless there's an earlier "cash by" date on the check, it's good for 6 months from the date on the check. But I don't know what you mean by can you initial it for him - you can't sign someone else's name, and if something needs to be changed and initialed, you can't do that for someone else either.
after all this time, if you are near the bank that the check is written on, I would present it to the teller and see if was still any good, and if so, sign it before the teller and get your money there and then.
Generally six months makes a check stale. You should be able to cash it.
