Not unless it passes. If it passes, yes, there's a clause that makes it illegal to buy private health insurance.
Note, the only people that can "opt out" of the public option, are the politicians. They'll still have access to their amazingly comprehensive, no copayments health insurance that they voted themselves.
If you already have insurance where you work, you can keep it.
If you work for a company with 50 of less employees, the owner doesn't have to provide health care and you could buy into the public option which is supposed to be cheaper than any other insurance.
Also this bill would make it illegal for any insurance company to deny anyone because of previous health conditions and they also have to treat you no matter what you need without denying your coverage.
There are flaws in this system because we should be going to a "Medicare for Everyone" Single Pay system. That would insure that both the government insurance and the private insurance companies would not get more than 3% in Administrative costs which equals to what Medicare provides.
Private insurance companies now get around 30% or more Admin costs.
It should mean that the doctor's would most likely make less but it couldn't be so low that they would want to completely get out of their careers just because of the almighty dollar and the ones that do never truly cared about their patients anyway and was only in it for the money.
With over 1500 pages it's going to be hard to know exactly what benefits we will get and what will be taken from us all.
I believe this health care vote should be cast by the US Citizens; not the House and Congress alone.
This is a freaking nightmare. We're moving to New Zealand. America isn't even going to exist in another year or so.
