Does renters insurance cover lost jewelry?

I recently went to the Bahamas and while swimming in the ocean there a wave took me under water, along with my wedding ring. So I was wondering if renters insurance would cover that loss.My insurance in through State Farm.

Thank you.

Consider the cost of the ring. Consider your deductible. Consider the number of claims you've submitted in the last three years. If you have submitted 2, don't call your agent. If you've submitted less and your deductible is low and your loss is high, call your agent.

I have never seen State Farm deny coverage for legitimately lost or misplaced jewelry.

Very interesting that the insurance company said that. To bad I think they don't want to pay and know you won't fight it. But what does anybody know what the claims adjuster will tell you. Report Abuse

I think the answer is Yes. What is not covered is excess jewelry or very expensive collection which will require a rider.

There will need to be receipt of purchase and an evaluation to establish value. You will also not get full value and any deductible you have will be deducted. Of course you must review the policy with you agent for specifics.

If you scheduled the wedding ring seperately - paid extra - then "oops I lost it" is covered. Otherwise, not.

Only if you had a separate rider for the jewelry.
