I'm homeless, I have a job but no bank account need somewhere to my money to keep it safe. All the prepaid card companys want a street address which i don't have. I rented a po box but they wont deliver there can someone please help afraid of being robbed
Sorry to hear about your situation, but am glad to hear you have a job. Here are a few options you might look into.
First, almost any bank is going to require a street address (thanks to the various account opening laws and know your customer rules).
To get a street address that should be sufficient for opening a prepaid account, go to Mail Boxes Etc or another place that gives you a real street address rather than a PO box. Or, one of the shelters may let you use their address.
Next, make sure you go with a prepaid card with very low fees. I just checked out some of the cards at www.getdebit.com and it looks like the Netspend premier card is about as cheap as you can get (make sure you set up direct deposit).
Ideally, you'd want a local bank account with free checking, but you won't be able to do that while you are on the Chexsystems list. Check out some of the tips on chexsystems removal at www.stopchex.com.
You may also want to talk to your local legal aid office and see if they can help you dispute your chexsystems record.
Good luck, and hang in there.
Well, you should contact the Department of Social and Human Services (DSHS) in your area to find out where you can open a free bank account. Trust me, there are such things. I know homeless people in Seattle that use such a place - I don't recall the name of it though. But you're probably not in Seattle though anyways.
Whatever it is, the place provides free accounts for homeless people. Drawback = no ATM card, no checks (to possibly kite), and they have limited hours, like from 10 AM to 3 PM. So whatever banking transactions you need to complete have to be done in person between those hours.

Yes, I understand a little better now. But like I said, there ARE free accounts available for homeless people. Like I also said, you DON'T get an ATM card or checks - any transaction must be done in person during the operating hours. They have such accounts for precisely the same reason you mentioned - they don't want people getting robbed. Contact DSHS - even anonymously if you wish - they WILL have the answer you seek.
