Are banks audited regularly?

We got a notice from the bank auditors on one of our accounts asking if our balance agreed with the bank balance. Is it common to only get one on one account and not another account in the same bank? I have NEVER gotten a bank audit notice ever before. This was from the bank auditor asking us to note any discrepancies with their figure.

Does this mean our bank is on the verge of failure and being audited? They didn't send a notice on the other two accounts.

No, it does not mean that they are on the verge of failure. The auditors involved in those situations are under very strict orders not to say anything that would make customers suspicious. The FDIC uses a fake corporate name to rent conference rooms at hotels, so that no one knows that the feds are in town until the bank actually closes.

If the letter says what the balance is and says to respond only if that number is incorrect:

Banks randomly select a small number of accounts for these letters. It is actually fairly pointless, because anyone who thought that their balance was wrong would complain even if they did not receive the letter.

If the letter does not say what the balance and account number are and asks you to provide your account number or balance, so that they can check, then the letter is not from the bank auditor and is actually a scam to obtain information that someone needs in order to steal money from your account.

You didn't give out your account number did you?
Scam?
