i got hired yesturday and tommorow im applying for a student credit card, will the bank give it to me? i have NO money in the bank so whats the outcome of getting one?, im in college so thats a plus but i wont get paid till next week.
Depending on who you bank with they may or may not give you one. Considering you just started to work and have no money. They will probably end up giving you a really high APR% rate, and believe me when you pay the minimum you will suffer in the long run. Unless you are planning on paying off the full amount of your credit card every month to help build yourself some credit I would highly recommend you stay away for a while. You will fall into debt really fast if you choose to get a credit card. Not only that if you can't pay for it because you "don't have any money" you will end up hurting yourself and your credit. Wait until you have a good amount of money in your bank account, say around $2000, and you are going steady, then look at your options.
To answer your question, I want to ask you a few questions. Why do you feel having a credit card is necessary? It is apparent you have no money, so why do you feel the need to use someone else's? Do you really want to have the money the government allows you to bring home to go out to help another bank make another tall building?
I want let you know that my wife and I are now in the process of paying off all of our credit card debt. I am not speaking to you from some lofty ivory tower. Currently, we pay out almost 250.00 a month in credit card bills. Do you know how many opportunities are lost to help others and save for emergencies due to our monthly funding of the banks? I highly recommend you read "Financial Peace Revisited" by Dave Ramsey. It will completely change how you see debt.
Yes, they will give you a card. Banks make money off the massive interest you pay, so they will have no problem giving you a card. But if you have no money, you shouldn't get a credit card. That's how you get into a debt problem. And how the economy goes into a depression.
If you've had previous credit history then you will likely get it. However, if you don't, then don't do it. Banks are pretty stingy on credit cards right now. Just wait a couple of months. I am positive the economy is getting better.
