Day Trading Initial Investment...?

Can someone please explain to me why it is require to have $25000USD to start a day traing account?

Can I just start a regular account and doing day trading? (Buy when stock market open and sales when stock market close.)

Has to do with the PDT rule. In 2001 the SEC decided that if you were going to buy and sell the same stock in the same day more than 3 times a week you had to have 25k in your account.

And yes you can daytrade with less than 25k but you can only do three daytrades a week after which they will freeze your account for 90 days so just keep it down to three a week.

I daytrade upto 3 times a week but I am trying to get more into options. I'm using sogo right now because they have a nice non-flashy easy on the eyes interface and more importantly because they only charge $3 per trade while the other's charge fees of from $7 to $12 per trade.

While you are learning about stocks also read up on options. That is a must if you want to be an investor. Take a look at LEAPS, you will be glad you did.

Hit amazon and look for 5 star reviews on books. and get this book on options:
