We live in Michigan. Recently both my husband and I received notices that our licenses were suspended for unpaid traffic tickets and driver responsibility fees. We live week to week, are barely making it right now, and have two children under 4 at home. I recently got pulled over for a broken tail light (which was another thing we couldn't afford to fix)and incurred so many fees (plus a misdemeanor, court dates etc.) that now my husband and I's fees add up to several thousands of dollars, and we are more than behind in all of our bills. He still needs to continue to go to work so that we can pay these fines, but is terrified he'll be pulled over again. Short of having thousands on hand right now to pay it all, Does anyone know how best to try to recuperate? Thanks.
Two bikes.
I agree you need to contact the DMV about a hardship license and paying what you owe, before you wake up to both of your vehicles being towed. If your vehicles get towed, you can't get them unless you pay in full and after 30 days, they'll be up for auction. Sounds like neither of you can afford to drive if you can't drive legally. I would look at selling your vehicles and getting bikes or taking public transportation. Vehicles cost money (payments if you don't own, gas, maintenance, insurance, and tickets in your case).
uh...instead of continuing to break the law, why not contact the DMV about a payment plan and a hardship license to at least get to work legally?
At least it'll narrow the odds to 50/50 when someone gets caught the next time.
You can arrange with the courts to go to jail for the weekends to pay off your debt, sound harsh, but want else can you do???
Not being responsible got you this far...if you'd like to straighten this out go to the DMV and see what you can work out. DONT DRIVE.
move near a bus stop
