When is the earliest date the IRS computer will download my return? NOT the acceptance date, not the processing date, just the date the computer will hold onto it before the machine sends me acceptance of my return. and before it is processed. How about Dec 25th?
Dear Elkriver: Keep checking www.irs.gov for the filing dates. Typically it's mid Jan.
You can have all your numbers ready and when it's time-shoot it off.
Would not file until Jan 1 at the earliest, even if the software holds the return.

Probably 1-1-2010
You can not cut your tax year short. You might have income between 12-25- and 12-31-
Even if you know you won't, you have to look at the big picture. You can't generally end a tax year that is a calendar year, only a fiscal year and that you can cut short and change to calendar year.
Typically it's around 1/16/2010--that's when the IRS started accepting returns in 2009.
The turbotax and taxcut programs would store the returns on their servers until then.
Not announced yet that I've heard, but is usually somewhere mid January.
Why the big rush? Do you expect a massive tax refund?
