Hi, I'm 19 and I want a credit card.
I'm not in debt or anything but I don't even have at credit. My credit is like, at, zero or something. I want to build it up.
How can I get one? I was thinking of applying for a Chevron gas card to start...
What do you think? I don't want to apply for a card and then get rejected because if you apply and get denied it hurts your credit score. Thoughts?
How do I do this? I'm really responsible with my money, by the way.
There are cards designed for younger individuals with limited or no credit history. I believe capital one is one of the best to suit that need.
However, with the current credit situation, lenders have really tightened up their lending practices, making approvals more difficult then it once was. If you are trying to stay away from denials, which I agree you should, than you could apply for a secured card. HSBC and or Orchard offers a approval for an unsecured card, but if they can't approve you, they will offer you a secured card. Secured cards work just like regular cards except you have to deposit money used as collateral. Eventually, these secure cards will graduate to and unsecured card and you get your deposit back.
Try to make sure the secured credit card company reports to all 4 major credit bureaus (equifax, experian, transunion, innovis).
Check out the source I give for more information on the above information.
Best of all secured cards almost always get approved.
Hope this helps, best of luck!
If you want to get the credit card, then you have to first create a credit history. It is easy to get a gas card such as Texaco, ExxonMobil. After getting gas credit card you have to use it regularly and always pay your bill in time because if you pay late even once then you would damage your credit rating and won't get visa or master card.
