were doing essays on pros and cons about smoking bans in public places...unfortunately...i got the con side...so my question is How much money does america invest from cigarette taxes per year? please and thank you..
website would help..thanks
Cons of smoking bans in public places:
Reduced revenue in bars, restaurants, etc. that cater to smokers. If sales drop, so does sales tax revenue. Each city gets a percentage of the sales tax revenue collected. The educational system, the county, and the state gets a cut of the sales tax.
On a personal level, I do not like the idea that the government can tell the owner of business that he cannot allow someone to smoke. This is a call that the business owner has to make.
I understand the argument is the dangers of second hand smoke... what about places with "all you can eat" buffets full of fried foods, butter, carbs.. etc.? The taxpayer will eventually pick of the medicare tab on the obese people just like the bills created by smokers.
