I'm am making a movie about politics for my government class. In the movie I use various video clips from YouTube. How would you properly cite this?
I just have this written in the credits:
All video clips provided and owed by
YouTube.com
...............................................................................
I'd say at least you should give the actual URL of the video you're using.
And *does* YouTube actually own the videos they show? I don't think they do. I think the original owner still retains the copyright. You probably should give credit to them, too, by citing their screen name.
(The best way to do this, however, would be to ask your professor how you should cite the videos. You never go wrong by doing it the way the teacher asks you to!)
YouTube legal citation. How do you Cite YouTube?

Security job physical requirements ?
Can I get a job as a security guard ? I have a year off college and I like working nights.
I'm 5'6, 130lbs, 19 years old, shoulder length hair.
I think if I was an employer I'd never employ someone with those stats, but just wondering anyway.
Going to get an armed license hopfeully, I'm a good shot.
...............................................................................
The hair might be a problem, depending on the Guard company and who they are assigned to. You also, in most cases, will require a Guard Card
...............................................................................
it would be better if you are taller, shorter hair, well built, martial arts and fire arm knowledge....

If you lose your job and have no money/house is it legal too camp out?
Was just wondering if you lost your job and also lost your home (reposessed) are there places where you are allowed to camp out in your tent. Or can you get free emergency housing or something similar. This question is hypothetical.
...............................................................................
You can't camp out for free - in the UK camping is banned at many public sites, and of course you would pay a fee to camp at many designated campgrounds.
However, a situation like this doesn't have to necessarily mean homelessness.
I know you say it is hypothetical but if this were to happen, your first step should be to contact your local authority. There are some people whom the local authority has an obligation to house, so if you fell into this category, then you would be given free accommodation in a bed-and-breakfast until a council flat could be found for you.
If the local authority were not obligated to house you, they would still be able to refer you to somewhere that could help such as a homeless shelter/hostel, where at least you would get a bed to sleep in each night.
Basically, in the UK now almost all local authorities consider preventing/eradicating homelessness to be a priority, and if you ask for help then you will almost always get it.
...............................................................................
yes it is called being homeless

If I work three jobs is it necessary for my employer to know?
No, you don't need to let your employer know. Many people today are working 2, 3, or even 4 jobs just to get by. How you spend your free time is your business. So you're free to pursue other work outside of what you're doing now.
Now there are exceptions to the rule. For example, if you have a contracted position. What's the problem here? Well many of these contracts have conflict of interest provisions. For example, while you're working on a project for a client, you would be prohibited from working for that client on the side. That's to prevent a conflict of interest and any possible undue influence. But aside from this, you're free to do what you like.

I bought a camera off CL, and it doesnt work can I do anything legaly?
I bought a SONY CAMCORDER off of Craigslist. I emailed with the person & they never mentioned that it didn't record. It turns on and everything but doesn't work. I paid only $85 so I thought it was a steal! But then I got home & tried to record but nothing happened. I have tried emailing the guy but he doesn't respond. Is there anything I can do legally?
...............................................................................
no different than buying at a yard sale, it is what it is there is nothing you can do

I am questioning whether or not a previous employer is sabotaging me and saying untrue things, how do i prove?
I was at an interview and it went really well. The three people I interviewed with pretty much told me i had the job, but they had to go through the process of interviewing two more candidates. I was working for a company that was an extreme hostile work environment that i had to get myself out of. I accidentally put the contact number for the supervisor that was making my life hell on my application from the previous job. I think they are part of me not getting hired. Can I legally ask why I wasn't considered after being told I was going to get hired? I want to catch the old supervisor in the act of breaking the law of sabotaging my name. How do I prove it?
...............................................................................
What a previous employer can say about a former employee is regulated by state law. The majority of states will allow only length or service, title/job duties, and some salary indications (for some states it is a range, others can get exact figures).
There are a few states, Illinois being one, that allow just about any information to be passed. For example in Illinois a previous employer can say what they want as long as the employer has a belief that it is true.
Employees can fight this by never, ever giving the phone number of the direct supervisor. Give the number of the HR dept. HR depts. usually will follow the law or the company policy. Companies who are in multiple states usually will opt for the most retrictive policy on information.
Even if you do all that, there is always the potential that someone will tell someone will tell a friend of someone at the potential company. So, the employee needs to ready IF ASKED to say 'my previous supervisor and I had a personality conflict so I do not expect an accurate recommendation form him, instead speak with this other person who knows my work'. Make sure you have one or two people who know your work and will provide you with good references.
You can legally ask why a company did not fire you, but they will probably give you a vague line. Why? Because if they admit that they relied on the reference from the former employer you can get this potential employer involved in a lawsuit. That is how you would need to proceed if you want to sue the old supervisor for defamation. You need to put on the witness stand an employer who will say under oath that they did not hire you totally due to the poor reference. No employer wants to step in that situation.
So find some other people who know your work that you can use as references, and do not put your former supervisors contact information anywhere on an application. Good luck.
...............................................................................
you can ask, they dont have to respond. It is illegal for former employer to bad mouth you but proving it is very hard to do. They can answer if you worked there time of employment and if you are rehireable or not. ALOT can be told by the tone. I have checked refrences before and could tell by the tone on the other end of the phone they didnt like the sound of the name i was calling about.
...............................................................................
You could try getting a friend with a manager-sounding voice to phone up pretending to be a would-be employer. Or perhaps it might be better to get your solicitor to do it, as they would be a more credible witness, but it would probably be against their professional code of conduct to lie.
Remember that when applying for a job, you can quote previous employers as referees, but say that the details of the most recent employment are "available on request", so they do not ask for it until they are about to give you the job, and phoning your most recent employer is the very last thing they have to do before they make a decision.

Employment Applications- Questions on sex, race and Consumer Report?
The questions at the end of an employment application ie Are You Latino or Hispanic, What Race are you : African American , White , Native American, Asian ..etc ..etc ..
Are you Male/Female
Do these questions allow for discrimination? With the Job Market so tight and down right apocalyptic .... do we really need to give employers the opportunity to discriminate and hire not by Qualification but by Race or Sex? Down here in South Florida I dont think White Males have a chance.
And..what about the Consumer Report? What business is it of an employer to be able to look at your spending habits? Isnt a criminal report good enough to determine character? I can see if you are applying for a job in the financial sector ...but anything else? Hell no. Im writing to my Congressman about this nonsense.
...............................................................................
Because of stupid laws buisness's with x number employees must have certain percentages of minorities so therefore it is legal to ask the question, you may legally leave that question blank however. As for credit check if your going to be around money they want to know if your up to you nose in debt. Credit does show what kind of person you are. Some places have to by law do it in order to be bonded. ususally some place that deals with other peoples personal information. Iv had to submit to this when i did service plumbing, wharehouse work and Management.
...............................................................................
Some employers do need to check the credit report of a potential employee. It's a fair question. The race and gender questions are set up to promote as much equality as possible in the workplace.

Can someone tell me how much a secretary makes in a hr, day, week, month and year?
I'm not sure how to calculate it?
...............................................................................
A secretary's salary can range from $25,000 to $75,000 or more a year, depending on whether they're right out of college and working in a small office, or whether they've been working for many years as a professional executive secretary in a large business firm.
The annual salary divided by 12 is the monthly salary.
The annual salary divided by 52 is the weekly salary.
The weekly salary divided by 5 is the daily salary.
The weekly salary divided by 40 is the hourly salary.
...............................................................................
depends on what type of secretary (legal, office assistant, etc), and what part of the country (certain areas have a higher minimum wage and/or cost of living).

If you worked at a job for 14 years , would you think that you have seniority?
Just curious , I have been at my job for 14 years , and at one time
loved every morning , couldn't wait to get there , alot of changes have taken place , I was once a leader and took care of what we call
"cells" they took that job away from me because of the changes although pointed out that for the 7 years I took care of the unit , I did well , I had a phone , I placed orders , I ran the unit to the best of my ability , took care of backorders , told my boss when I was short on parts , dealt with the vendor .. Now our company has went to this " lean " stuff , and in electronics its a bit hard to do , I no longer have this postion , and a new boss , well have many .. I try to go with the flow , and have been out now for a month due to medical problems
I am going back soon , but I am so dreading it , its like no one cares anymore ... I can't make it like it was , and sometimes change is good but when you bring in people to do this , the money they spend on trying to fix what wasn't broken , saddens me .. In my department I am the only one that has been there 14 years .. My boss 3 years ..
I dunno ...
...............................................................................
Sorry to say no. Spending 14 years basically on the same job does not mean you're qualified to run the business. You had to be promoted to a higher position to overtake your boss, which you could try to do even if there were some one with 20 years of history on the job. Look at how US Presidents are elected, seniority has nothing to do with the results.
...............................................................................
These days in the job market, there is no such thing as seniority. If a new person just graduated school gets a position you have had for...oh 10 years, they out rank you because they have the new skills to get the job done faster. Sorry that's just the way it is.

Just worked back to back 20+ hour work days, wtf?
Of course I'm payed salary, and looking through other questions it seems I'm out of luck. Thursday morning, I left for work at 4 a.m., and drove 2 hours to the job. When I got there I worked from 6 a.m. until 330 pm, when my boss finally gave me a lunch break. Started working again from 4 pm until around 130 a.m. with no other breaks what so ever. As I was leaving for my 2 hour drive home, my boss told me to be back at 630 a.m. So I got home at 330, slept for 45 minutes, drove 2 hours back to work and did the same thing again. I nearly died while falling asleep at the wheel about 15 times on my way home saturday morning at 2.a.m. I literally just worked 40 hours in 2 days, with a grand total of 1 hour lunch break between the 2 days. Is this seriously legal just because I'm on salary? Did I sign my soul to the devil or what!? I live in california, and work in the fumigation buisness.
...............................................................................
your commute time is irrelevant to the legal issues...........
California requires overtime of time & half after 8 hours and double time after 12. being on salary does not make you exempt from overtime only the duties of the job determine the exempt status.
http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_Overtime....
the number of hours you worked are legal for most jobs, there are some exemptions, as long as the appropriate overtime has been paid.
California has very strict laws concerning breaks and being on salary does not exempt you from those break laws.
http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_MealPerio...
http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/FAQ_RestPerio...
your employer can be hit with significant fines for these violations.
SO
yes it is legal to require you to work these hours as long as you have had all appropriate breaks and have been paid appropriately for the time worked.
...............................................................................
Right, the question you should be asking yourself is, not is this legal but should i have got in my car after working the amount of hours you did.
Driving whilst tired is as bad as drink driving, people die on the roads because of drivers who fall asleep at the wheel.
I'm not saying this to sound nasty but if this happens in future, DONT get behind the wheel and drive, very very dangerous
...............................................................................
Paid salary doesn't mean you are exempt and don't have to be paid overtime pay. By federal law, you aren't exempt unless you are a manager or a highly paid professional (fed laws specify just what that means). CA law is stricter on OT pay than the feds.
Your 4 hour round trip commute is your own problem. But those work hours are ridiculous although not illegal if you are properly paid for them.
...............................................................................
,
Staying t home was really important to me so I did a lot of research to find out legit companies that will pay you to work at home. I have them listed on my blog. http://howimakemoneyathome.notlong.com
...............................................................................
I suggest you do some research (there are laws on working hours and breaks etc) or talk to your boss. I'm assuming the circumstances of working this many hours were unusual (this isn't a regular occurance, if it is i suggest you start looking for another job). Does your boss know you have a 2 hour commute? Try talking to your boss and fixing regular hours, you can't be that desperate for the money you need to work that much.
You should never ever drive when that tired - your lucky you didn't kill yourself.

What does a secretary do?
Files papers, types, and answers phones.
...............................................................................
Computer work, usually involving a working knowledge and experience with word processing programs like Microsoft Word, and spreadsheet programs like Excel, and should probably be familiar with the Internet and email, plus other computer programs that might be required for a particular secretarial position. Some may want you to know Access, or Quickbooks. Some secretaries do extensive bookkeeping while others do a little light bookkeeping. There is usually some kind of clerical work involved, like putting information in alphabetical order, or using an adding machine to come up with mathematical totals on something. Good typing speed and also good typing accuracy help secretaries to get good jobs. Usually there is filing to do. They may make appointments for their boss and remind him of those appointments. They need some method for typing up the boss' letters and other documents -- he either gives them handwritten documents to type up, or he dictates the information and the secretary either takes it down with shorthand or something similar, or she may type it onto the computer as he talks if she is a real fast typist and can do this. Some secretarial jobs involve greeting guests, some don't. Almost always a secretary will spend some time answering the phone, even if the company has a receptionist, so good communication skills are needed and an awareness of "office/phone language and etiquette protocol." Some secretaries do just typing, filing and answering the phone, while other secretaries function more like an administrative assistant, but their job title doesn't always reflect their responsibilities and their salary doesn't either.
...............................................................................
They are now called administrative assistants. They do whatever their bosses need - type letters, pay bills, do bookkeeping, filing, run errands.
...............................................................................
answer phone, file paper work, type, take dictation, keep up with all bosses appts.,and of course gets his morning coffee.

What kind of training should I get to speak like a lawyer?
How can I become as articulate as the great debaters?
I am watching this movie right now and I like the way they speak.
I would like to have a career where I will need to argue for things whether it is law, advertisement, sale etc...
I am an international student but I speak English fluently. There is no debate team in my school, so I can't practice or go to muck trials.
I would like to be able to enunciatemy thoughts freely even In the most unexpected circumstances.
...............................................................................
First it is called "Mock" trials. Secondly, the word is spelled "enunciate" and is not being used correctly in that sentence. Best practice is learning how to read, spell, and write correctly. Then apply that in your daily conversations.
...............................................................................
You cant articulate in a confrontation unless you actually attend
classes for law students because law has a broad subject matters
and you must have legal mind to argue. on line school I think is not sufficient to observe deportation of a lawyer that is at least portrayed by law student during mock trial. To study law is worth the trying instead of thinking how it is done or wondering what is our purpose in life.
