I will be starting in less than a month and I am interested in what has helped others make the transition. Especially on staying organized.

Your preceptor on the new job will teach you many things that have worked for them over the years. You didn't mention the type of job but I assuming it is on a hospital division. Talk to other nurses and see what keeps them organized. For me at a long term acute care. I get report from 07-0730 or so and then print off my med sheets. I then go in and assess my patients and check thier meds (in a locked cabinet in thier rooms) I note any that are missing or in the narc box and go onto the next patient etc. Once finished I gather the remaining meds and pass them to my patients. Then hopefully I get to sit down and chart my assessments and meds etc. I really try to get charting assessments done early because it takes awhile to do it. That way your ahead for the rest of the day, and if something happens your not as far behind. GOOD LUCK and welcome to the profession.
Ps If you dont like your preceptor ask for a different one. Some experienced nurses like to intimidate new grads and make you feel like an idiot as way of amusing themselves. I call it "eating thier young" which is both unprofessional and foolish.
Does anyone have some good advice for a graduate nurse?
