Why when i sign up for syep, it keeps saying my social security number is wrong?

I placed in the whole thing, but it keeps saying please check if its correct. But it is correct. Yes, i did it without the dashes and spaces. So all 9 numbers were put in. so why is it keep saying its not the correct number
...............................................................................
Did you apply before? If you signed in before, it wont accept it again if you signed up once, for security purposes, I think there is a link that says "Check Status" and you can type in your SYEP ID there. Let me know what happens.
...............................................................................
I hate to tell you this, but today was the last day to sign up. You might already be too late.

Here's their phone number, if you want to call and plead your case:

If you have further questions about SYEP, contact NYC Youth Connect at (800) 246-4646

Call customer service. They might have issues with online services. If they are not having issues I would call the SS office and ask them this question.

Should she thank her lucky stars?

I live in Florida. My best friend just graduated from College last year with a BA in Criminology. She has been having the hardest time finding a job in her field and any other field for that manner. She has a child and has basically been applying for any job (walmart, cvs, Kohl's, etc) but I'm assuming that because she is "overqualified" (I don't get that, but anyway) she hasn't had any offers.
Anyway, she finally got an offer at an inbound call center as a receptionist for doctors, lawyers, financial orgs and such. She is upset that the pay is only $8.50 for part time and is considering not taking it. I told her she can always ask for full time and she can also continue to look for other work while there. What do you guys think? Should she be happy or at least grateful?
...............................................................................
Being happy or grateful does not count....being in a job always helps you get another job much easier than none at all.
Because in employment you will get the chance of meeting other people and developing a network.....someone who knows someone, is looking for a 'receptionist' or looking for a 'financial advisor' etc etc....
...............................................................................
I talk to people all the time that are in their "in between jobs". If she has no income coming in, then a little is better than nothing.

Is it possible for an employee to be fired for bad mouthing or gossiping a manager who was recently terminated?

Our manager was recently terminated and several employees in our department cannot stop gossiping about the situation and are bad mouthing the manager. Human resources is currently investigating the issue. Is this grounds for immediate termination or just a simple 'write-up'?
...............................................................................
Depends on what the employees were saying. If what they were discussing was supposed to be confidential, they might get a warning.

If people got fired for bad-mouthing employees (or ex-employees), most offices would be empty.
...............................................................................
No employees can be terminated if they continue to talk and gossip about the manager with the fact that might be the cause of the termination. Rumors are not only hurtful, but they are inappropriate for the workplace.
...............................................................................
yes its bad
It looks bad for the company you are working for.

I started a new job, but some factors are hindering me from doing my best, how do I explain this without?

passing blame.
The deal is I started a new job 3 weeks ago. Everyone likes me, I show that I will do my best to get the job done, I try to take ignicitave, but it's a litte hard because everything is sooo disorganized. My computer is complete crap, ( and I'm doing graphics) their internet/server is horrible. All my files are saving at really large file sizes, and I can't send them out because of their internet/server won't let me send out large file sizes. It takes forever for the computer to save my file. I have to save two versions, one for print, and one for review over email, but then it corrupts the file when I do that....... and on top of it. they give me a deadline, then cut it in half, then cut that in half again. Change this around, then change it back. The are not getting me the changes until 5 minutes before I'm supposed to leave. and they are pushing me and having unrealistic expectations.
The last file I sent to the bosses... they came back with some mistakes with spelling, etc (when you change the wording a hundred times, which changes the layout, then hey!) my immediate boss is crazy and frantic and having me go in 100 directions at the same time, without any kind of clarification or making any since. The whole work place knows he's like this, and I'm learning who to go to to give me the right information
and he know that he's like that too, and therefore he's reasonable and forgiving. However his boss is not there and does not understand. I know that he will ask me about it, saying there are too many mistakes coming out, and it's not fast enough. Even if the deadlines are getting cut in half, and computers that are infected with viruses, and curupt files and too many changes given to make happen in a very small amount of time, It's still my responsibility. How do I make my case without blaming things and not taking responsibility. I want to work there as long as they understand that I am a good worker and I'm doing my best.
...............................................................................
It sounds like you are very knowledgeable with graphics and with other things like that, and I know how it hurts to be taken advantage of. I have a disability myself, and it has been hard to prove to people that I can do the same job as the next person.

The best suggestion that I can offer for you, is to go to your boss, and say that you're trying your best on the work, and that with the larger files that are out there, and with the slow speed on the computer, that it is taking some extra time to save the work.

In the meantime, I would make repairs to the resume, and send them out to employers, and see if there is an employer who can accept you for who you are, and is willing to give you a chance. There are a lot of good companies that need good people out there like you, and this boss doesn't deserve you!
...............................................................................
Its initiative.... not igniciative. It's corrupt not curupt.

I am sorry but I agree with them sending your work back because it has spelling mistakes. There is no excuse for sloppy work.
...............................................................................
Hang in there.

In the meantime, get your resume back out and pretend this job didn't happen.

Good luck.
...............................................................................
If I were you, I would try to talk to your boss. He seems really disorganized, and if he wants a successful business, then he needs to step it up. You don't need all these problems with the computer when youre doing your job. If he doesn't do anything, then to me that means he isnt appreciating how hard you work to get the job done on time and without errors. Also: Is there any way you could bring your own computer to work?
...............................................................................
Take a break relax, do your best, and if they ask what the problem is then tell them the truth...ask for help or save up for a new computer

Don't vent to your boss. Do the best you can. If you don't have software to condense files, try downloading a free version. When your boss complains, do not list excuses. Tell him, calmly, that you do the best with what you have to work with. In the mean time, I would look for another job.

Do I have to use my first name on my Social Security Card?

I have just joined a company with the business rule for email accounts of using the employee's first name. This is communicated as a Sarbanes Oxley compliance issue. In 20 years of business, everyone knows me by my middle name and all previous email accounts and other communications have reflected this. Will the SSA allow me to obtain a card without my first name? If so, payroll can correct my profile and the email address can be revised.
...............................................................................
Your legal name will be shown on the card. Additionally, when you file your tax return, if it does not match the name on your Social Security card, you will get a letter from the IRS to straighten the matter out with SSA. The W-2 forms issued by your company must match the signature on your tax forms. So you can either legally change your name to your middle name, or change your payroll records at work. Also make sure all 1099's from bank interest match your Social Security card.

Hope this helps.
...............................................................................
Unfortunately with things like social security cards, social insurance numbers, birth certificates, and other pieces like health cards etc., need to have your full legal name on it. Just talk with your employer and say that you're uncomfortable using your first name on the email. I don't think that they will be able to change it, but if they do, just explain the situation, and I am sure that they would be able to assist you. There is always a way, some employers may not be as loose as others are with changing policy for one person, but there are some people out there that are willing to assist you! Good luck!:)
...............................................................................
Your SS card MUST have your full legal name as a matter of law. They will not even process your application for a card if it does not have your legal name on it.
...............................................................................
No, you have to have a first name on it.

I got hired at Macy's, I quit after 1 day cuz I didn't like my hours...?

I applied again at the same store and I'm ready to work with whatever hours they give me but do you think they'll consider me again for employment?
...............................................................................
i dont think they will. if i was the manager i would be very cautious with anyone that even resembled you.
...............................................................................
You'll know when you show your face. I wouldn't go there again. You walked off the job on bad terms. They will remember and will worry that you will do it again. We are pretty much a dime a dozen and employers can pick and choose from so many people. That's the truth about recession.

I think we are going into a depression because the Republicans are pissed we have a Democratic president. The Republicans are the one who carry the money and since they are sitting on it, jobs are scarce. You have to change your attitude about jobs and take what's offered to you. You need to be more flexible, especially if you don't have childcare needs. Grow up!!!
...............................................................................
You should have thought of that before you quit!! If i were an employer, in today's economy, with so many people hunting for jobs, I'd have filled your position with someone else who probably would appreciate even crappy hours.
...............................................................................
Depends. But if I had a person in the past that proved to be finicky, and I have another unknown, I'd probably go with the unknown. Continue applying elsewhere.
...............................................................................
you should had told them you did not like the hours.

will they employ you again?

i think not because after 1 day and you quit? wow.

anyways, good luck
...............................................................................
Sure, they most likely will want you in the front office where you can get the exact hours you need. Macy's does not want unhappy people working for them.

One short-term job offer and an interview for a long-term contract?

On Friday I got two call backs from two different temp agencies. The first one has a 3 week assignment with no interview for $11.50, medical file clerk. It starts June 1 and I accepted it already. Later that same day I checked my phone and set up and interview for an Administrative Assistant job for $12-$15 per hour and it's a year long contract.

So I interview this Tuesday and have to sign papers for the other job, drug test, and whatnot the same day. I'd like to hold out for the better opportunity, but I may not get it. I've been out of work for a long time and could use the money. I'll probably ask when the job starts in the interview because if it starts in July I could do both. I may end up burning a bridge if I can't finish the assignment if I start that, but it's doggy dog out there and few opportunities arise in this recession.

Please let me know what you would do in this situation. I'm asking this again because people keep sending me links to scams. Please do not advertise!!! I'm looking for opinions or suggestions only.
...............................................................................
You don't have enough information to base a sound decision on. You need to find out when the long term job starts. I would put off signing papers for the first job, for one day if possible, till you can find out more about the long term job.
...............................................................................
I would actually try telling the job offer that pays less the truth and see if they are willing to work with you so you can do both jobs. I would even make sure the day I start with the other company is my last day or that you can have it off. Try not to bun any bridges but ask for help while you are in a position to get it. Most employers are willing to help if they know the truth and really want you.
...............................................................................
How soon will they contact you for the long-term position? You still have a week before June. If that accepts you, take it and go for it because its good money. Try calling in the week to thank the person for an interview or something if you don't get any news after a couple days.

How long should it take to hear back from an interview?

Hello veterans! This week is a short week and I have an interview on Tuesday. I accepted a 3 week file clerk position that starts the following Monday (June 1). Do you think I will hear back before the 3 wk job starts?

This other job is a year long contract as an Admin Assistant and I'd rather do that. I will have my Bachelor's Degree in Business Admin by the time I'm done.

Please tell me what you think and no scam ads!!!
...............................................................................
with any luck you should hear before then but if not accept the other job as it will go better on your c.v
...............................................................................
Actually, you shouldn't be waiting at all. You should ask them at the interview exactly when would be an appropriate time for YOU to call them to find out if they are interested in offering the job to you.

This will not only give you the answer you are seeking, but it will show them how eager you are to get the job!
...............................................................................
I agree with Marco. Don't wait by the time the interview is over they know if they want you in their company or not. Just ask, you could say "will it be okay to call you on Thursday for you decision"? then they will think that you have other options and hopefully not drag their feet. Congrats on getting your Bachelor's Degree

Is it possible to work a switcboard with an nhs hearing aid?

as i have one and have been offered a job with our local trust
...............................................................................
As long as you wear the hearing aid to work there should be no issues, if you would feel better by pointing it out to your employer you can do.

It is discrimination for them to withdraw the job offer on that alone, as you are more than capable of hearing what is being said down the line (as long as you wear the hearing aid).

Good luck in your new job :)

yes it is so take the job offer

Very confused between two jobs. pleasee helpppp?

hello everyone

i am in a dillemma right now. i am looking for a part time job currently so i could study for my gmat. i went to a psychologist's office (an hour commute from my house ) for an admin assistant interview and didnt hear from her from a week. when i finally called her after a week to see the update she said she has found another better candidate and will move with her. she was offering $12/hour. now that same day, i went to a verizon cell phone store close to my house to apply and i got called the next day for $8 an hour. i said yes to the verizon store and the manager fired the person who i was supposed to replace and asked me to start in two weeks.

right after saying yes to the verizon store, i got a call back from the psychologist's office and she said she wants to hire me. i went to the 2nd interview and she liked me and offerred me the job.

now i am so confused i dont know what to dooo
i dont know if i should work with verizon or with the psychologist. the only reason i am thinking of not leaving verizon is because the store manager fired someone because of me and do you guys think it will be selfish of me to leave her?

P.S. i'll make the same amount of money working 28 hours at the psychologist as i would make working 40 hours at verizon.

Please help! please help me and tell me what you think i should do.
Thank youuu
...............................................................................
You must look after yourself, that is what the others would do if the situation were reverse. Take the job you really want. It sounds like working for the psychologist and making more money per hour is what is best for you. Put your feelings and heart aside and think with your brain. The Verizon job can easily be filled by someone else and you have not worked there very long so they do not have alot of time invested in training you. Its not your fault that someone got fired, this would have happened regardless if you got hired or not.

Is human resources always hiring(10 points to who can give me detaild answers?

i understand the most in demand job nowadays are accountants and nurses since they are always hiring but how bout human resources are they always hiring and if so how many ppl usually work in the personell department of one company. i live in nyc btw. o and would an MS in hr management be profitable in getting into that field?
...............................................................................
There are lots of different careers in HR. You can stay general and do all the different parts or you can specialize in a certain area. Larger companies have bigger HR departments. However, that depends what you count as HR. Some companies include payroll but in others it is a part of finance. We have 2 people in the HR department for a company of 300 people. The most important thing is getting your foot in the door. You normally have to start in a clerk type job and then work your way up. Eduction is always a bonus but experience is more important.

How to quit a job with class?

so if I ever need to go back then I can.
...............................................................................
Give them at least two weeks notice. This is the least you can do to leave with class and not burn bridges. Two weeks should be enough time to find a replacement, have you train other people to do your job, and whatever else is needed to make the transition easier for them.

In your letter of resignation, say that you appreciate the opportunity to work there. Don't use it as a place to vent about what you didn't like about the job.
...............................................................................
Mention to your boss that you appreciate the time you spent working there, and you would like the option of returning, but you need to leave right now due to (fill in the blank).

Tell your co-workers that you had fun and enjoyed working with them (even if you didn't). That helps make everyone feel good while you're on your way out.
...............................................................................
make a letter of resignation. Type it and give it to your boss
