I left a good job about 14 months ago. I gave notice and still receive good comments from previous co-workers. I just had a phone interview with the company and know the next step is a review with the lady whom i gave my past notice. We were always cordial with each other, but i always felt some type of resistance from her. Quitting this job was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. How can I kiss up to this lady and try to convince to give me a second chance? I will do anything within reason to get this job back. Those of you in a position to hire people, what could someone do to convince you to give a second chance? Suggestions???

Before this review, sit down and remember what it was like 14 months ago. Why did you think quitting and going some place else would be better for you? Why didn't this work the way you hoped it would? Why wasn't the new situation the "better fit."
Try to find the reasons that admit change and maturity. Things you've done to make yourself a better fit at the old job. Why you will return with renewed enthusiasm and why you think you are in it for the long haul.
Emphasize that you still have the skill set you had when you left (and what you've added since then) and how this is a savings to them since you are a proven commodity.
If you left because you didn't like the schedule, emphasize that you've gotten more organized in your life and get more done on weekends, etc.
If you were burned out, emphasize that doing something different recharged you.
I've worked with several boomerangs. The ones who could articulate why they left and why coming back wasn't going to be temporary until something better came along were welcomed back with open arms.
I had one co-worker who was certain that the problems in his marriage were tied to his job schedule and if he didn't travel, his marriage would be fine. After quitting and spending more quality time with his wife, he realized that the schedule masked the problems, but didn't cause them. He got marriage counseling and after fixing the problems asked to come back because he like the job itself, the travel and the pay.
