Hi - i owed ebay £13 which i paid off direct to ebay yesterday. Today i have received a letter from NCO debt collectors saying i owe £21.00
I called and told them i had paid ebay direct and was told i have to pay them the additional £8 as it is their fees.
Is this legal? Granted they did send a letter and obviously it was referred before i paid but should i have to pay their admin charges when i paid direct to ebay?

as far as i know once you have paid the company that you origionally owe the debt to that should be the end of it.
to be on the safe side i would always contact the cab.
:-)

It depends really on whether the debt was 'sold' to the debt collector. If the agency has bought your debt, they are entitled to charge you for that plus the 'cost of writing the letter'. Legally they shouldn't be out of pocket because of you & they followed procedure by sending the letter in the first place informing you. For the sake of £8 is not worth it, but if you feel you must - contact e-bay & double check their policy regarding late payment.

once you pay the company you owe the money to and have proof of this you cant get sued
tell the company they need to tell the debt collector that you paid this and that they need to stop threatening you
mail a copy of the receipt saying you paid this debt and let the collector know if he continues harass you ,you will file charges

Tell them you have no intention of paying them. You do not owe eBay any money and you have no client relationship with their company. If they are unhappy, they can sue you.
Do i have to pay a debt collector if i pay the company direct? UK?
