If you don't get any better answers, you can always do this by creating 2 "sections" of your document. The first section would be just the first page, and do not number it. The second section would be the rest of the document, starting on page 2. Start numbering at "1" (if that is what you want).

If you want the numbering to only show up on page 2, but you want that one numbered "2", then forget the previous paragraph and just put the page number in a header or footer, and click the box that says "First Page Different."

I am wondering... When going for a job, i have seen it advertised for a company to do your own state-wide background check for you. I am tempted to do this. It says: If an employer is thinking of hiring you, having your own background check results as run by that company will save them the time of doing so, and put you at an edge to get hired.

First step is to contact HMRC and register as a Sole Trader and self employed. Forget Ltd companies unless you have a lot to loose. They will send you all the paperwork and you will arrange through them to pay your NI contributions.
You then open a business bank account.
If you are trading from offices or a shop you will need public liability Insurance. Can't give you anymore info until you tell us what you are going to do.
It's all quite easy really. Don't forget to get an Accountant they will save you a fortune..You do not need to register for VAT unless you will earning 67k in your first year.

You could go with your first idea but do the 10th hour free instead of the 10th time.

You may want to think about a way to give a bonus to your customers that refer you to other people too. Maybe offer them a free hour of babysitting if they refer you to a client that books a job with you.

And if you want to do the 20% off you can calculate it ahead of time and then you will be ready when the time comes.

I have a small ranch and have a couple that work for me. She works 12 hours a week feeding and cleaning up after animals, he works 8 hours a week cutting weeds, mowing keeping the place looking nice. They live on the property in a nice mobile home and their work is in exchange for rent. She is 7 months pregnant. I have told them they don't have to move. They were very worried I was going to fire them.
My question is: What would be a fair arrangement. Have him pick up her work? Have them pay for hours not worked? Should I give her some time off to have the baby? How much time do I need to give her before expecting her to work. The work is physical but not hard. She also has another job at a day care.

My husband and I also both work full time and don't have time to do her work.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

The Family Leave and Maternity Act (which you are not subject to due to both the size of your ranch and the fact that your employee works less than 25 hours per week) provides some guidelines.

The key elements are:

1) Your employee is entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid leave
2) At the end of 12 weeks you must offer the employee either the same job or a comparable job at the same level of pay.

If I were you I would ask the father-to-be to pick up the slack and do whatever his wife will be unable to do.

The way to make money reselling used stuff is to search out estate sales and other auctions where someone is selling a bunch of stuff that they don't know what it's value is. However, you'll end up spending as much time at that as you would any other 'real' job since auction buying and then reselling isn't something you just start doing and immediately do well at. It's a learned skill.
