How do i raise my credit score now?

6 months ago i lost my job and quit making payments to my cc. and now i have a job but the damage is done. Is it better for my score to start making payments again or just to pay off the balance?

it would depend on the state of each account... if it had already gone to collections you are screwed... it will take seven years from thje date of first delinquency for it to fall off your crredit,,,,

If you still have the account and it can be saved before going to collections, then try to work out a deal with the credit card company, to make payments...

stick to your payment schedule and you'll start o see a rise in your credit score after 24 months of on time payments... your score will still stay low, but, in the event you have to apply for new credit, then it can be shown to the bank that you just hit a bad stretch like a lot of folks did in the last few years....

If its in collections youre toast, if it's not, then work with the credit card company to save the account. and regardless of what the collection agent says, any money you pay them goes to the COLLECTION AGENCY not the original creditor and will not help your score...

Do not deal with collectors... deal directly with the original creditor..

This answer is wrong. If it goes to collection they will send you an offer for less than the full balance somewhere around 50% of the original balance. Negotiate with them to report it to your credit report as paid in full, or satisfied be sure to get it in wrighting before you make a payment. Report Abuse
