I have the money, but...?

Over the past 2 years me and my brother have been saving money to get a trampoline. We finally have enough money to buy one, and our parents wont let us buy it! The grass is all yellow in the spot we would want to put it, it has a special net that is stretchy and extra safe, it has an airshock technology so the trampoline wont get hard if two people are jumping on it, and my brother is autistic and is reall really looking forward to getting one. My dad is a doctor so he sees all of the various injuries from trampolines, and is completly against them, my mom on the other hand is okay with it. So now I have to upset my brother and say it was a wasted effort to save up all this money. Does anyone have any ideas on how to convince my dad to LET us buy one?

Mary, i understand how upset you are, and i'm not sure I can help, but i'm going to try. I don't know how old you are, but i'm still going to talk to you as a grown up. First, trampolines are dangerous and i'm sure your father is not only worrying about you or your brother getting hurt, but what about your friends?
We live in a world today where everyone sues the other person if they think they can make a dime. You see commercials on tv everyday for some attorney wanting you to get what you deserve, right? You say your father is a doctor. What do you think might happen if one of your Friends is hurt and their parents decide to sue your father for a few million dollars? Now, your father is looking at the big picture, having you mad at him, versus taking a chance of losing everything he has, including your college fund and money to take care of your brother. So, cut your dad some slack. Try and find something else you and your brother can buy. I'm proud of you for saving this money, and i hope you get over this.

bring up the fact about you brother being autistic and how he would have SO MUCH fun on it. how your mom is all for it and how you wont let your brother on it without you with him so he doesnt get hurt GOOD LUCK

It is your money, you should get what you want. I'm not sure.

Your dad is correct.

Trampolines are dangerous. Even with a net, even with a rule that one person jumps at a time, you can still take a bad bounce and break a bone. Your dad is a Dr, so he sees these injuries a lot.

Also, if your friends come over and jump on the trampoline and get hurt they can and will sue your parents. You are asking your parents to put all of their financial assets....everything they have worked very hard to earn at risk for a toy.

Perhaps you and your brother should put the money toward a toy that is less dangerous - such as a Wii or X box.
