No, you can 'repair' your credit yourself. There's nothing magical about it.

You can find more info here:

Hope that helps.

Note that the link from John is in the Bahamas; it's unlikely that they can fix your credit, and more likely they just want your social security number to ruin the credit even more.
No matter what someone says, fixing credit is a matter of time and effort. There is no magic fix. Someone who charges will simply dispute every bad report on your credit record; some of the creditors will not respond in time and the negative record goes away. You can do this yourself in a couple of hours.
Log on to www.annualcreditreport.com. It's web site run by the three major reporting companies. You can use that to access your credit reports, and review them yourself. They each will accept disputes on line as well.
In the meantime, pay your bills on time and don't carry much balance on credit cards. You need to use them to build a higher score, but you need to pay them off.

Anyone who wants to charge you a fee to clean up your credit or even promises they will, is full of hot air.

Find the local chapter of the CCCS. What that is is Consumer Credit Counseling Service. They are a not for profit organization that will work with you to form a budget, contact your creditors to either lower interest rate or stop it altogether and get your bills paid off in under 5 years. They do NOT charge you for this, whereas most credit *repair* companies want a fee for doing pretty much something you can do on your own. I think the bank guy gets a commission by getting you to sign up with their in house credit cleaning lady.

Fix your own credit.

If they'll do it for free, yeah, go for it. If they want you to pay, you can use other people or go to the library and get books or info online about how to make your credit better. It involves making statements about false information on your credit reports.
