How much would I make after taxes in CA at $15/hr, 40hr/wk?

Considering a new job. I've always worked part time for tips, so I don't really have a clear idea of how much money I'd be making per month working full time at $15/hr. I have no dependents or write-offs or anything screwy like that, and I live in California (San Francisco to be specific).

Thanks!

You should have been paying taxes on the tips, but I'll ignore that for now.

If you have no dependent and have only one job and no one else can claim you as their dependent, then you may claim up to two "allowances" on your W-4. If you do so, and work in CA at then the following taxes should be withheld from your $600 per week paycheck:

Federal income tax
$45.13
Social Security
$37.20
Medicare
$8.70
California income tax
$11.02
CA disability insurance
$6.60

This will leave you with $491.35 per week after taxes.

For monthly amounts, multiply for 4 and 1/3. There are 52 weeks and 1 day in 12 months. The average month is 4 and 1/3 weeks and 2 hours long.

If you elect to claim fewer allowances, then more tax will be withheld and

State income taxes would take out just under $650 in your case, and you'd pay about $3,300 in federal taxes. On top of that, sales tax would account for about $2,000 (just a guesstimate).

Overall, after taxes, you should make around $24,000.
