If you work contract, can you apply for uneployment insurance?

I have a job, but it is going to end soon, have been looking for another job, but not very successful at it. If I work contract, can I get umemployment from the company I work for. This is what they take out in taxes, Federal, Social Security, Medicare and Ga income taxes. My employer said that I could not get it, it that correct?

Probably not correct.

If you are an employee and your job ends, then you can apply for unemployment.

If you were an independent contractor, then you would not be eligible, but they would not be withholding the taxes that you mention. They would only withhold those taxes if you were an employee, and employees are eligible.

You can apply, but you won't win. Contract work isn't a layoff - it's TEMPORARY.
