Why does the mega million lottery always say out of state winner?

when ever the lottery hits 200million or more some one gets it. and it says out of state winner all the time. is this a scheme? is the lottery agency playing us? are they claiming the money? or is this a multi state thing where its a 1in50 possibility of hitting in texas? please help.

Mega Millions is sold in 12 states. However, the odds of a winner being from any given state are NOT 1:12. this is because the number of TICKETS sold in each state is not equal. If statistics on ticket sales by state are available, I was too lazy to find them. If you do a search for "mega Millions, you can find the lotteries official website. Something is the results should help if the information is available.

Powerball or Mega Million lottery do not go to all the states. So 1 in 50 is not correct. Lottery is not a "scheme" just nearly impossible to hit. You have a better chance at getting struck by lighting.
