How much will a brain cat scan cost me with insurance?

I am scheduled for a brain cat scan in about a week. I live in Texas and on Blue Cross/ Blue Shield medical insurance. I pay 70/30, so my insurance sucks, i have a $500 deductible as well. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas how much I will end up paying. This cat scan isn't necessary, so I think if it is too much i will just cancel it and wait until next year. I suffer from headaches every day and migraines once a week. Thankyou in advance.

~~The best way to find out the exact cost is to call the facility where the scan will be performed, and find out the billing codes they will use. Make sure they include every item and doctor and technician who will be involved. It always includes a doctor who interprets the scan, the tech who performed it, then what your ordering doctor will charge on his part, etc. So you need to call both your doc and the radiology dept. Write down every code then call your insurance company. WIth this information, they can tell you exactly what your out of pocket cost will be.

ALSO! If you have a PPO, be sure the radiology dept is on the approved provider list, they will charge you full price if they are not! This is always the patent's responsibility, very few people are aware they are the ones responsible. Best of luck with everything.~~

Not at all, I appreciate it, and hope all goes well with you! Report Abuse

You'll have to call BCBS and ask them. See, they'll take the rate from the hospital, and it's pre-negotiated down. Then you've got the $500 deductible that you have to pay - but likely you've already paid towards that, anyway, so no one here could POSSIBLY know, what 30% of the prenegotiated bill, minus your deductible remainder, could be.

You should be calling the radiology facility and asking them. Make sure it is "in network" for your plan and that any preauthorization needed has been obtained.
