I live with my mom and my sister and my mom just can't afford to buy groceries for me and my younger sister anymore because her two jobs are cutting her back on hours. I help her out with some of the money I get from the Feds for Disability, but it's not helping very much. She asked me to apply for Food Stamps. I'm totally willing to and I know where to go to find out, but it's late now and business hours are closed and I just want to know if I'm eligible. I don't receive any other money from a job or any other type of aid and I don't have medical insurance.
first of all, if you have SSDI you should be qualified to have medicare & medicaid! you can apply online for foodstamps! it depends on your amount you get from ssdi! i get 17 dollars a month for foodstamps! please look for insurance~ i'm on SSDI and i receive medicare & medicaid!
Social Services (state agency providing food stamps) will look at the income of your mother, your sister, and your disability income and make recommendations based on this sum. It varies from state to state and sometimes from county to county.
Sometimes there are other kinds of assistance available that citizens are not even aware of like fuel assistance and a lowered rate on utility bills.
Very often there are non-profit groups which will advocate for families with a disabled member like you.
Good Luck.
You can check your eligibility online in most states. You don't say what state you live in, so type "food stamp application + State name" in Yahoo or Google search to find out where it is. You can also look at other programs for which you or your family may be eligible for at http://www.benefits.gov
It's not automatic. You have to apply for them. It depends on household income, and the number of people who live in your house.
yup for 3 ppl you'll get 200+ a month
yes you are able to if you cant afford it, i have it and it helps alot! : good luck!
