My employer refuses to give me my paycheck?

my employer refuses to give me my pay check.....here is what happened. the sent me to school to become an instructor with out researching about being an instructor (CPR) but they made me sign a paper that said I would teach without charging them and if I left I would have to pay the money back even if I left I told them I would still teach without a charge...upon finding out that there is a charge for materials to teach the class I informed them and told them that they couldn't hold me to the paper that I signed...they refused to give it back to me or make any changes to it....My director informed the board about what was going on and they blamed me for not finding out prior to the class. I didn't pay for it or call to find out the information the director did. after a few days of this going back and forth the director wrote me up for things they said I did. but didn't know about after the director making my life miserable for a few days I gave my two weeks notice....that was fine with them after a few days the director questioned me for taking a day off I told her I notified her assistant because she was not there....she them told me that I was done working there...So was I fired???? Then when I went to get my paycheck I was told that the board voted and they are keeping it for the cost of the class that they sent me to. Is this legal HELP

No one can "make" you sign anything without you reading and understanding it. So don't put all the blame on the employer, you are at fault too.
Is the assistant authorized to approve you taking off?
Good luck trying to get unemployment now, you will have to proof your firing was in error.
The company will fight and you won't be able to claim unemployment.

You are not ineligible for unemployment simply because you worked for a non-profit organization. Check out your state unemployment website for more information. Report Abuse

First off...did you attend and COMPLETE the class? Or did you go to the first one, find out it cost money for the books, and then go and tell them but not go back to class because you were waiting for them to pay for the books???

Regardless...don't be a fool....let them fire you so you can at least receive unemployment.

If you paycheck is worth it (money wise) go pay an attorney 25 or 50 bucks for a letter. Tell him what happened and say that you just want a letter stating that what they did was illegal because no where on the consent form that you signed does it say that you are required to pay ANY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES.
ie: materials for the class.

Of course, this won't work if you have no idea what the eff you signed and what it said - and good luck trying to get a copy of it now if you don't have one....
