What is the minimum amount that you recommend on saving for a car?

I am a college student (Junior), and I am TRYING to save up to buy my first car for next year. So I was wondering what is the minimum amount that I should try to save. I know the more money you have the better but I would like an estimate of what I should have. I don't want anything fancy, just something to get me back and forth from college. Car suggestions would be nice too and some places where I could look for the best deals. Thanks in advance!

About $2000-$3000, and don't buy anything you can't pay for in full.

An older Toyota Corollla would be good. I've owned nothing but Corollas & Camrys for years now. Take it to a repair shop and see if they will inspect it before you buy it. I would buy a car from an individual, such as in the paper, on Craigslist, or just by driving down some secondary roads/state highways and seeing the cars people have put in their yards etc to sell.

When you find a car you might be interested in, get the year, make model and mileage, and the condition of the car; go to www.kbb.com and plug in that info into the private buy section. That will give you an idea of what an individual may be asking for it as a fair price (you'll want to pay less though).

0.

If you're HIS girl, HE oughta pay for it.

LOL

Save at least 2000 if you want a car thats not a piece of junk but its not going to get you any popularity.
