Ok, I hope I can explain myself. So I send a mail about a photoshoot job and the next day photographer replies saying his client for the clothing line would like to hire him. I'm supposed to get payed 3,500 but they want to send in the first part payment of 700 before the photoshoot takes place. Do you think it's safe? What is the worst that could happen if I take the job and accept the check? PLEASE HELP! I have NO EXPERIENCE with these kinds of stuff.
*Where* did you find this client? Craigslist?
The typical scam would be they send you a fake money order (or check or cashier's check) for $700 (or any amount). You then deposit it. About 3 days later, they have an "emergency" and say they need some or all of the money back via Western Union.
The problem is, the credit in your bank account is a courtesy credit and doesn't actually mean the money is there. It can take 2-3 weeks for the bank to know for sure if the check is good.
I would think it is safe, when you cash or deposit it go into the bank and have them run it in person. It is usually illegal if its a personal check though so if they screw you you rarely have a case
